Ah, weddings..

I love them, don't you? Do they make you cry as much as I do? It's not that I'm sad...I think it's the overwhelming rush of emotion that fills the space where the ceremony is taking place.  Even if it's outside! I have memories of my own come back to me, my husband squeezes my hand just a little to let me know that he feels it too..(though he'd never tell you that)..

And what better way to be a part of anyone's wedding than providing them with their cake?!? I LOVE being chosen to help the happy couple celebrate by making a delicious and pretty cake for their big day.  The theme lately has gone towards single servings--cupcakes-- and a cutting cake for the bride and groom.

That's exactly what Casandra and Krag asked for, and what they got.  Five dozen each of chocolate and vanilla cupcakes and a vanilla cutting cake, dressing in a simple buttercream icing.

One Day, Last Summer...

So there I was, scrubbing the toilet (I gave Cinderella the day off...oh, who am I kidding...I AM Cinderella...)..

In Like a Lamb?

It's March.  Can you believe it?!?! I certainly can't.  Already into the 3rd month of the year.  And yesterday at work, a customer had the audacity to remind me that Christmas is coming in 9 months.  O. M. G. I just about fell over.

So, I have been a busy girl! Well, I think so, anyway.  I work a lot.  It keeps me busy.  When I'm off work, this is what I do ;)

We're looking at Yoda, people.  Yoda.  The Force, Be with You, It May ... Vanilla cake covered in green buttercream.  The raised areas of his face I did all in icing..since I'm not much of a carver ;)  It's so much fun to play with sugar and butter lol!

The next one was a bit...well....yellower...

I like to call him Bee-do.  6 layers of chocolate cake with buttercream fill and buttercream icing on the outside.  The glasses strap, mouth and overalls are modeling chocolate, and the glasses are white fondant painted with silver pearl dust.  As for the sirens, I was going to do cake, but changed my mind once I figured out that it would have to be dowelled to infinity just to hold them on. So, red plastic beverage cups rimmed with aluminium foil it was.  He's so much fun!

We wrap our gazebo in plastic during the winter so we have a place to get out of the wind. This afternoon I don't even need a coat in here...

Me Want Cookie!!

Holy moly.  I have found my new obsession! Cookies! ACK!! Not that I've never made them...not that I haven't made some really awesome ones!  I just haven't decorated them.  Nope.  Always wanted to, but never have.  So, here I was, looking for some cool cookie inspiration on line when, out of nowhere (ok, from the images search, but bear with me), I saw these amazingly intricately decorated cookies from a member of Cookie Connection.  That prompted me to investigate further.  And am I glad I did!

I found an awesome sugar cookie recipe by LilaLoa, got to baking, and next thing ya know, it's the middle of the night, and I'm icing cookies.  My kitchen looks like a tree-dwelling, cookie making dwarf got to it! Go ahead, check the link.  I'll wait.

So anyway....It's Teacher Appreciation Week at my son's school.  And Valentine's Day.  And well, I feel the need to send treats to class, personalized of course, and to volunteer to make cookies for all the teachers, teaching assistants, office and janitorial staff, crossing guards and bus drivers.  It sounds like alot but 24 for my boy and 44 for the school isn't really that much. Unless you're the Other Half looking around the kitchen for a clear space to set something down.  Then it's alot!

Oh the Aroma!

You should smell my house right now.  Really, you should be here.  There are ribs in my oven that are making me crazy with lust.  Seriously! I don't know if after these I will ever BBQ ribs on the grill again.  I just took a quick sneak of them, and let me tell you...to die for.  No exaggeration. They look like this:

And for dessert if you remember, I was going to do a chocolate football.  Well, I got to thinking about that, and how sweet it would be with the chocolate icing on the chocolate cake.  And, since it's more or less for the Other Half to enjoy for Super Bowl Sunday, I thought I'd compromise and make what he likes...French Vanilla.  But the buttercream icing is heavenly.. (and my favourite part--it's a win/win situation).

That's what we'll be indulging in for the Big Game along with various chips and sundries...How about you? What did you make? Do you watch the game or is hockey more your thing...? Oh, and may the Broncos,  best team, win...!

Today's sweet treat, Pineapple Upsidedown Cake. The recipe is from Martha Stewart Cakes. Buy the recipe book and start drooling! Everything looks so scrumptious...let's hope this was a great start. Can't hardly wait to make more!

Happy Boxing Day!

It's Christmas Day for my Mom's side of the family.  What a ride! Kids running and screaming, the smells of turkey and ham permeate the air and a pile of shoes and boots blocks the entry.

We always have this thing at Christmas of making too much food.  There was tonnes. Well, a lot.  And I have this habit of eating tonnes. But, between you and me, we'll call it a lot.

I didn't make any desserts or cakes for this get-together.  I know...you were expecting one since that's all I seem to have been doing, lately. Instead, I gave away a shawl I've been working on for oh, a year and a half.  Yes, I said it out loud.  That long.

 I made it for my grandma :) She loved it. I don't have a photo of her with it because I'm not with it like that. However a photo of the shawl? I could do that for ya...

Winning!!!

Who doesn't love contests??? I do! I do!!

I love playing contests..and winning, of course! I do radio, Internet and draws...and sometimes, I win!

Frost-ing the Snowman

So he doesn't have a magic top hat. I thought a good old Canadian toque would keep him a lot, ahem, warmer...

Here he is, in all his buttercream glory...

His hat and scarf are modelling chocolate, made from those melts at the bulk store mixed with light corn syrup. So easy!

He even comes complete with his very own snowball border :)

Cake Making

Tonight is cake night.  Well, the last few days have been cake days.  Tonight is cake icing and assembling.  This is the part that makes my stomach twinge.  I have a vision.  A clear vision of how this 3D snowman should look.  Will it be so? Can I get the "round" look I want without the whole thing *gasp* toppling over?!?!?! These questions have plagued me for days and restless nights.  How I want my vision to manifest itself!!
